Equine Facilities & Property Management -
Equipment management and care Expert Bryan Harnish Questions (For answers, scroll down or click on question) Questions and Answers Q: I need to find a medium sized tractor, what brand and model do you recommend? A: We have different brands that we use
on our farm and all seem to be OK. All of the major companies stand behind their
product. Any dealer should be able to help you with size. If you tell them what
you are going to do with it, they should be able to pick a horse power range for
you. One thing you may want to check out is all the major companies are making
mid-size tractors that are hydrostadic. That means no shifting versus a straight
stick with gears and a clutch. You may want to look at front end loaders for the
tractor also. They come in handy for a lot of things around the farm. I always
try to go a little larger on size and horse power if possible, because they seem
to hold up better.
Q: Is there any existing equipment to lower the volume of the manure that is picked up and stored at stables - a shredder or compactor? A: I am not aware of any
equipment that would help with this problem, but I have heard of insects
being used in Europe.
